- Toothache: Clean the area of the affected tooth. Rinse the mouth with warm water and use floss to get any food that may be stuck in the area. Contact us for an emergency appointment.
- Cut or Bitten Tongue, Lip or Cheek: Apply ice to injured area. Apply firm pressure with a cloth. If bleeding cannot be controlled visit the hospital emergency room.
- Knocked Out Permanent Tooth: Find the tooth and handle it by the crown, not by the root. DO NOT clean the tooth with soap, scrub or handle the tooth unnecessarily, rinse with water only. If tooth looks not broken/fractured try to reinsert the it in the socket. Have the child bite on a gauze or clean cloth. If you cannot reinsert the tooth put it in a cup containing the patient’s saliva or milk. Must see a dentist IMMEDIATELY!
- Knocked Out Baby Tooth: Contact us for an emergency visit. The baby tooth should not be to reinserted in the socket due to possible damage to the developing permanent tooth.
- Chipped or Fractured Permanent Tooth: Contact us for an emergency visit. Quick action can save the tooth and prevent infection. Rinse the mouth with water and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling. If possible, locate and save any broken tooth fragments and bring them with you to the dentist.
- Chipped or Fractured Baby Tooth: Contact us for an emergency visit.
- Severe Blow to the Head: Take your child to the nearest emergency room immediately.
- Possible Broken or Fractured Jaw: Keep the jaw from moving and take your child to the nearest emergency room.
